Two seasons, one garage
Living near Tahoe means a garage that changes jobs twice a year. Skis, boots, goggles and hand warmers in winter. Tents, stoves and paddle gear by June.
The trick is treating each bin as a record you can search, not just a box on a shelf.
Set up seasonal bins
Make a location for the garage with shelves inside it. Create bins like Ski Bin A, Kids Ski Gear and Camp Kitchen. Add items with quantities so you know when the hand warmers are running low.
Add a photo of the open bin. When a friend asks to borrow a sleeping pad, you can check from your phone before you dig.
The spring and fall swap
When the season flips, scan each bin as it moves from the front shelf to the high shelf or the storage unit. Locations stay accurate without retyping anything.
Tag items like Mt. Rose, Desolation or Pyramid Lake to filter gear by trip.
